The exploration of this transformative state is at the very heart of the book. Quinn shows how anyone can enter the fundamental state of leadership by engaging in the eight practices that center on the theme of ever-increasing integrity - reflective action, authentic engagement, appreciative inquiry, grounded vision, adaptive confidence, detached interdependence, responsible freedom, and tough love. After each chapter, Quinn challenges you to assess yourself with respect to each practice and to formulate a strategy for personal growth. "Building the Bridge As You Walk On It" emphasizes that developing leaders is not a simple matter of imparting a set of concepts or reaching into a toolkit of strategies and behaviors. To become a leader requires engagement in the process of deep change in oneself, thereby inviting others to do the same. Once this process is in motion, we truly begin to transform one another to become the type of leaders we strive to be."--BOOK JACKET.

Cities and the shaping of memory in the ancient Near East / Ömür Harmanşah, Brown University.

The land of Aššur: the making of Assyrian landscapes -- 4. City and the festival: monuments, urban space, and spatial narratives -- 5. Upright stones and building stories: architectural technologies and the poetics of urban space -- 6. Cities, place, and desire."This book investigates the founding and building of cities in the ancient Near East. The creation of new cities was imagined as an ideological project or a divine intervention in the political narratives and mythologies of Near Eastern cultures, often masking the complex processes behind the social production of urban space. During the Early Iron Age (ca. 1200-850 BCE), Assyrian and Syro-Hittite rulers developed a highly performative official discourse that revolved around constructing cities, cultivating landscapes, building watercourses, erecting monuments, and initiating public festivals. This volume combs through archaeological, epigraphic, visual, architectural, and environmental evidence to tell the story of a region from the perspective of its spatial practices, landscape history, and architectural technologies. It argues that the cultural processes of the making of urban spaces shape collective memory and identity as well as sites of political performance and state spectacle"-- Provided by publisher.

Claudio Lippi, intervista.jpgINTERVISTA A REALITY & SHOW Non parlate di vacanze estive a Claudio Lippi.

Dovesse chiedermelo qualcuno, direi di no".

Tornando a Domenico Modugno.

Tante parole e pochi fatti...

Compaiono Frizzi, Amadeus, Roberta Lanfranchi..

Typically, they start strong and experience periods of growth, then stagnate and lose members. Since 1991, the North American population has increased by 15 percent while the number of 2unchurched3 people has increased by 92 percent. Large church houses that were filled in the 1950s and 60s now hold a fraction of their capacity. To counter this trend, authors Ed Stetzer and Mike Dodson surveyed 300 churches from across ten different denominations that recently achieved healthy evangelistic growth after a significant season of decline. What they have discovered is an exciting method of congregation reinvigoration that is shared in the new book entitled Comeback Churches. - Publisher.

It presents a systematic theory of cosmopolitanism, explicating its core principles and justifications, and examines the role many of these principles have played in the development of global politics, such as framing the human rights regime. The framework is then used to address some of the most pressing issues of our time: the crisis of financial markets, climate change and the fallout from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. In each case, Held argues that realistic politics is exhausted, and that cosmopolitanism is the new realism. -- Book cover.

How might principles of Israel's Covenant, relevant to a simple agricultural society, be applied to an extremely complex economy dominated by interrelated transnational corporations? Is it possible that churches, synagogues, mosques, and other communities deeply rooted in the Bible could find in the biblical Covenant the basis for insisting that people's economic rights be protected? Horsley's book explores these and other economic issues in the Bible, Offering pastors, students, and laity a clearer understanding of the Bible's clarion call for economic justice for all--an issue that is sure to resonate during today's trying times.

David and his theologian : literary, social, and theological investigations of the early monarchy / Walter Brueggemann ; edited by K.C. Hanson.

Includes bibliographical references (p. 177-185) and indexes."Additional works on David and Second Samuel": p. 187-189.David and his theologian -- On trust and freedom -- The trusted creature -- Life and death in tenth-century Israel -- Kingship and chaos -- Narrative coherence and theological intentionality in 1 Samuel 18 -- Narrative intentionality in 1 Samuel 29 -- On coping with curse : a study of 2 Samuel 16:5-14 -- An appendix of deconstruction? : 2 Samuel 21-24Throughout Walter Brueggemann's career, he has repeatedly found his way back to the David and royal traditions. From some of his earliest articles and essays to monographs, commentaries, and sermons, he has explored this rich field in literary, social, and theological depth. As he has said, "My preoccupation with David rests on the awareness that David occupies a central position in the imagination of ancient Israel and in the rendering of 'faith and history' by that community. As the genealogies locate David, he stands mid-point between the rigors of Mosaic faith and the destruction of Jerusalem; as a consequence he becomes, in the artistry of Israel, the carrier of all the ambivalence Israel knew about guarantees and risks in the world YHWH governs." This volume brings together some of Brueggemann's key essays on the David traditions, as well as their interrelationships with traditions in the book of Genesis--Foreword.

Documents and images for the study of Paul / Neil Elliott and Mark Reasoner, editors.

xi, 418 p. : ill., 1 map, ports. ; 23 cm.Includes bibliographical references and indexes.Introduction: exploring Paul's environment -- Paul's self-presentation -- Paul's gospel and Paul's letters -- The gospel of Augustus -- Paul's people: Israel -- The communities around Paul: the ekklesiai -- Paul's legacy."The world surrounding Paul and the assemblies comes vividly to life here. Documents and Images for the Study of Paul gathers representative texts illustrating Jewish practices, Greco-Roman moral exhortation, biblical interpretation, Roman ideology, apocalyptic visions, epistolary conventions, and more to illustrate the complex cultural environment in which Paul carried out his apostolic work and the manifold ways in which his legacy was reshaped in early Christianity. Paul is the focus of intense and often controversial scholarly attention today. Brief, insightful introductions orient the reader to the significance of ancient sources for different contemporary interpretations of Paul's life and thought. Photographs illustrate the visual environment of the Greco-Roman world; a map, a timeline, and an index of scripture passages make the sourcebook the perfect companion text for studying Paul and his letters. This is a foundational work for everyone who wants to learn more about Paul and the cultural, political, and religious environment of the Apostle's work and his letters"--Publisher description.

A sociology of family life : change and diversity in intimate relations / Deborah Chambers.

Includes bibliographical references (p. 193-229) and index."New kinds of intimate relationships such as post-divorce families, co-habiting couples, 'friends as family' and same-sex unions are now commonplace. This book explores the growing diversity of family life by presenting a comprehensive assessment of recent research and theory, and foregrounds new thinking about 'family', parenting, childhood and personal life. A Sociology of Family Life queries notions of moral decline by revealing a remarkable persistence of commitment and reciprocity across cultures in traditional and new family relations. This insightful and innovative work examines factors such as gender, race, ethnic identity and new sexual lifestyles in relation to cultural customs, government policies and social inequalities. Global dimensions of intimate life are explored, including the impact of population policies on fertility in several nations; ethical dilemmas associated with reproductive technologies among different cultures; interdependencies between rich and poor nations through the globalization of domestic care; and transnational marriage strategies. This book will be indispensable for students across the social sciences interested in change in intimate relations."--Publisher's website.Traditional approaches to the family -- Individualization, intimacy and family life -- Parenting practices and values -- The changing nature of childhood -- Families and ageing societies -- Globalization, migration and intimate relations -- Families, fertility and populations -- Families and new reproductive technologies -- New directions : personal life, family and friendship.
